There is a change in terminology for fatty liver disease, specifically from NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) and NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis) to MAFLD (Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease). This change was made by NAFLD Nomenclature Consensus Group and other organizations involved in liver health including APASL and PSSLD. The new terms aim to better reflect the link between fatty liver disease and metabolic dysfunction. This clearly tells everyone that it’s not just the liver it affects all other systems of the body since it’s a metabolic syndrome, the type 2 Diabetics and obese individuals are especially predisposed to this liver ailment, and cardiac problems they are predisposed to vascular problems due to consistently abnormal lipid profiles. The highlight of this conference of APASL would reflect on all aspects and a multidisciplinary diagnostic and therapeutic approach for better outcome of these patients.
